Message from Christine (Panto Director)

As director of  pantomime by the Rojales Pantomime group “Aladdin” “Dick Whittington” “Cinderella” and our last hilarious “Sleeping Beauty” I would like to thank all members, cast and crew alike for their dedication and hard work because believe me it is hard work most of the year through. They were by no means perfect but audience and cast thoroughly enjoyed it and it showed by the audience reaction on the way out of the Theatre.

Some of the cast had never been on stage before, others had never taken a lead role so I thank them for a job well done, We may not be as professional as some but we make the audience laugh and enjoy it as much we are enjoying it. This shows by the audience reaction. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way. At the end of the day the idea is to raise money for local charities so thanks go to all involved, Watch local papers for presentations to the chosen charities we will be donating to.
Watch out for next years production (could be Puss in Boots!!!)

Christine Smith.

Rojales Panto Cast With Father Christmas

We took time out from our Cinderella pantomime rehearsals to join Father Christmas on the Santa Express. Lucy and her magic elves at the Christmas Shop organized this event to raise money for the Elche Childrens home. Lucy & her elves work tirelessly each year to ensure that this is a success and this year was no exception. A huge thank you to them all.

It was a fantastic day, raising money for a fantastic cause and as you can see from the photos below that children and even the “big” kids had a great time. And who said it doesn’t snow in this part of Spain. You can find more pictures of the day here.

A huge thank you to David Murdoch, our photographer for the day….he was amazing. If anyone wants any of the images on the site then please use the contact form HERE and we will get them to you as soon as possible.

A Wave of Fairy Dust & Meet Our Fairy Godmother

Tina (aka) Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother

Tina & her husband Peter retired early and moved to Spain to live 17 years ago.  Before family came along Tina was in a choir which went on to perform Handels Messiah in Guildford Cathedral.  She was also a member of an operatic society and performed in most of Gilbert & Sullivan operettas.  Like most women family life came first so singing and acting had to go on the back burner, but once reaching Spain all that changed.

She took up tap dancing and after a while was asked to join the The Next Generation dance troupe and this is where Tina first met Chris Smith (Rojales Pantomime’s Director). Chris already belonged to the original Torrevieja Show Group and persuaded the dance troupe to join as well, they then changed their names to The Show Group Toppers.

Tina performed in many of the productions over the years, singing, dancing and acting.  She even wrote and directed a 20 minute comedy script based on ‘Allo Allo’.  Tina left the T.S.G. and joined Chris when she moved to the Rojales Panto Group.  She has played various parts in all of the pantos and says she has thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Tina with her wealth of experience is a great asset to the Rojales Pantomime Group and plays a fantastic Fairy Godmother!

Meet Our Pantomime Director

Christine Smith with her husband, Mike came to live in Spain more than 27 years ago, during that time they set up a Villa Management business and never looked back. They are now retired and spend much of their time involved with the Rojales Pantomime group.
Christine’s interest was sparked when she went to see a performance by the then Torrevieja Show group. She thought “I’d like to have a go at that” but not being a singer and no experience of theatre was not sure if it was the right thing to do but joined anyway and was quite happy to be on stage in the chorus.

When the Show group’s founder and director left the group, she thought “I’d love a go at that” and so she did and was with them for 12 happy years, directing “Upstairs, Downstairs” a comedy “Anna & the King” also a production of “Oliver”. She then took a break and then along came a chance to join the Rojales Pantomime group,

She played various parts in “Jack and the Beanstalk”, “Red Riding Hood,” “Robinson Crusoe,” “Snow White,” & “The Wizard of Oz.” She then went on to direct “Aladdin” and “Dick Whittington”. Chris has had ample opportunity to discover the “highs” and “lows” of a director’s job but the highs make it all worth while and she’s enjoyed every minute of it. She has been with the group 8 years now and still loving it.
